| Manufacturing Wells - Methods for Step Change Improvement in Well Economics Shale Conference Download DE WARDT AND CO Manufacturing Wells Aug 2011.pdf - 0 KB |
||
| 2011-08-30 | Shale wells notoriously have high decline curves and rely on Estimated Ultimate Recovery (EUR) values high enough to make a respectable return on capital. The methods used to address generating high EURs are now costing a lot of money due to a tightening supply market. This is occurring in a low gas sales price environment. The economic stresses on shale drilling, primarily for gas positions, are high. Cost reduction and delivery acceleration from the application of manufacturing techniques is a significant opportunity to realize additional economic value. In doing so, the industry needs to be aware that it adopts modern manufacturing methods and not simply mass production that is now dated. |

Case Studies
Pressure Vessel Fabrication Time Cut by 27%
A "Design to Build" process improvement program cut the manufacturing time of very large diameter heavy tar sands processing vessels by 27% with an aggressive goal to continue the reduction.
Fabrication Shop Increases Throughput 50%
A heavy engineering fabrication shop was reorganized with improved techniques that increased weld metal lay down time as well as a devoted material preparation area. The result was an immediate 50% improvement in throughput.
